What is Subhealth?

Do you remember whether any of these happened to you often:

  • Feeling flustered
  • Short of breath
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Lethargy, easily tired

But brain scans, blood pressure and health check-ups reveals no abnormality? If these are true, you may be in a state of Subhealth, often understood as “grey state”, or “semi-healthy person”.

Subhealth refers to the state in between being healthy and diseased. It is also named as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or The 3rd stage. Numerous researches have been committed into the study of Subhealth, conducted by various medical elites from around the world. However, in the current medical field, they have yet to find any special factor which cause this diseased state, therefore it explains the lack of precise and effective treatments.

Upon survey, subhealth state is most prominent for people who are engaged in enterprise management, business activities. This is due to the fact that, as the pace of work life and lifestyle increases, with intensifying competition in the business world, people are to deal with heavy psychological stress.

According to statistics, people in subhealth are ranged between 20-45 years of age. In America, there are estimated 6 million people in subhealth, whiles Australia, they have 3.7 million. In Asia, the ratio of people in subhealth is even higher.

Not long ago, in a study conducted by Japan’s Ministry of Health, it revealed that out of 1000 white-collar workers being surveyed, 75% of them are in subhealth. Hence, it has led to the World’s concern about Subhealth as the new subject for the 21st century.

Subhealth is a new concept in the medical arena. In the late 1970s, only biomedical models were used in accordance to changes to the spectrum of diseases. These models have since, been further developed into biology-psychology-sociology medical models. In 1977, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has defined health as, “Not only disease and bodily weakness, but the perfect state of physical, mental and social adaptability”.

Since the 1980s, a series of studies and researches have been conducted with regards to health and diseases. The results show that, in this modern society, a large group of people are feeling unwell, yet no medical check ups are able to tell any organic diseases and when doctors have no better ways of treating them, this state is therefore called the Subhealth stage.

The result of modern medical researches which shows that there are many causes of subhealth. For example, fatigue, exhaustion, natural aging, preliminary stage of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, chronic diseases, recovery stage and after-surgery symptoms and the off peak stage of human biological cycle, etc.
